2024 Summer Intern Spotlight:
Our 2024 summer intern season has come to a close. This year, our interns were engaged in various projects, ranging from new product development to engineering. They also joined us for our summer party and other adventures, including trips to the beach and the mountains of Maine. Here’s a closer look at the incredible work our 2024 summer interns accomplished:
Anna Mastrogiovanni, a senior at Lafayette College in Pennsylvania, majoring in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, worked with our New Product Development team to optimize our Roundup Ready tests. Her mentor, Eric Tweedie, praised Anna’s dedication and hard work, noting that she exemplified what it means to be an innovative scientist every day. Anna’s favorite part of working at EnviroLogix was meeting the employees who make up EnviroLogix, from New Product Development to Operations, and especially networking and building relationships with the other interns.
Alison Gerety, a senior studying Biology at Syracuse University in New York, worked closely with Dr. Fred Parks. Alison focused on LFD stabilization for future tests and collaborated with other scientists on our zearalenone project. Her favorite aspect of working at EnviroLogix was feeling empowered to apply what she had learned in school and feeling appreciated by her colleagues in the lab. Her mentor, Dr. Fred Parks, remarked, “She brought energy and excitement to the lab every day. And as the mark of a true scientist, she was willing to ask thoughtful questions and probe the results of experiments that often pushed beyond the bounds of our current knowledge. It was a pleasure to work alongside her this summer, and she will be a great addition to any scientific endeavor she pursues in the future.”
Mary Lombardi, also a senior at Worcester Polytechnic Institute studying Biomedical Engineering, worked with our engineering team on two primary projects. The first was an overlap study on LFD tests for soybeans, where she determined the effects of the current conjugate and Nitro overlap tolerances. The second project involved introducing a new machine into our business that required a conveyor system. Through extensive research and collaboration with conveyor companies, Mary found a solution that provided savings with multiple applications. Her mentor, Chad Skykora, highlighted her exceptional problem-solving skills and noted how she went above and beyond on every piece of work she touched. Mary’s favorite part of working at EnviroLogix this summer was collaborating with the engineering team, fostering a learning and supportive environment.
Nicole Wijendra, a junior at Quinnipiac University studying Biochemistry, was a valuable member of our quality team this summer. Nicole’s main project focused on improving the precision of our tests with new materials. She collaborated across various departments to execute this project and appreciated the welcoming and kind environment that enabled her to achieve her goals. Nicole’s mentor commended her dedicated professionalism, highlighting her focus and adaptability. She made valuable contributions and handled her tasks—and any troubleshooting challenges—with resilience and ingenuity.
While our intern season always goes by too fast, we are thrilled to have had the time we did. All of our interns made a significant impact as they represented the next generation of talent. We will be accepting applications for our summer 2025 intern program this fall!
